Family & New Beginings

BSR isn't just for you. It's for the whole family.

Many of my clients first come to me for themselves. Then they bring their children. Then their teenagers. Then their partners. Because once you experience what BSR can do — once you feel what it's like for your body to finally let go — you naturally want that for the people you love most.
This page is for every stage of family life — from pregnancy and birth, right through to the teenage years.

Pregnancy is one of the most extraordinary things a body can do. It also asks an enormous amount of it.

As your body changes and your baby grows, the lower back and pelvis carry increasing load — and any tension already stored in those areas can become more pronounced. Regular BSR sessions throughout pregnancy can help keep the lower back and pelvic area as free from body stress as possible, supporting your comfort, your nervous system, and your body's ability to prepare naturally for birth.

BSR during pregnancy can help with:
  • Pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain (PGP) or symphysis pubis dysfunction (SPD)
  • Lower back pain and discomfort
  • Restless legs
  • Disrupted sleep
  • Anxiety and general tension
  • Helping the body stay as relaxed and balanced as possible ahead of labour

Sessions are gentle, safe, and deeply relaxing — and many pregnant women tell me it's the one hour in their week where they feel truly looked after.

Children

Children's bodies are resilient — but they're not invincible.

Falls, bumps, tumbles, heavy school bags, hours hunched over screens, and the physical demands of growing up all contribute to body stress building in young bodies. And because children can't always articulate how they feel, the signs often show up in their behaviour rather than their words.

A child with body stress may:
  • Complain of tummy aches or growing pains
  • Become unusually clingy, irritable or difficult to settle
  • Struggle to concentrate or sit still at school
  • Experience bedwetting beyond the age you'd expect
  • Have recurring headaches or low energy

The good news is that children respond to BSR remarkably quickly. Because stress hasn't had decades to accumulate, the body releases it readily — and the changes can be noticeable after just a session or two.

Newborns

Birth is a significant physical event — for mum, and for baby too.

The journey through the birth canal, the use of forceps or ventouse, a long or difficult labour, or an emergency caesarean — all of these can leave tension stored in a newborn's tiny body, particularly in the neck and lower back.

A baby can't tell you where it hurts. But their body communicates in other ways.

Signs that your baby may have stored body stress include::
  • Unsettled behaviour or persistent crying without an obvious cause
  • Difficulty feeding or latching
  • Colic or constipation
  • Restlessness and difficulty settling to sleep
  • Discomfort when lying in certain positions

I recommend that newborns are assessed for body stress within the first few months of life. The earlier any tension is identified and released, the less chance it has to accumulate and affect their growing body.

BSR for babies is extraordinarily gentle — the lightest of touches, guided entirely by what the baby's body needs. Most babies relax completely during a session. Many fall asleep.

Teenagers

The teenage years are harder on the body than most people realise.

Rapid growth, hormonal changes, exam stress, social pressure, sport, and the hours spent hunched over phones and laptops — all of this takes a physical toll that teenagers rarely connect to how they're feeling.

A teenager dealing with body stress might experience:
  • Back, neck or shoulder pain — often dismissed as growing pains
  • Headaches linked to screen time and poor posture
  • Anxiety that sits in the body as well as the mind
  • Fatigue that doesn't improve with rest
  • Digestive discomfort that flares with stress
  • Difficulty breathing deeply — particularly common in teenagers who hunch and collapse the chest

Teenagers often surprise themselves with how much better they feel after BSR. And because they're young, their bodies respond quickly and hold the improvements well.

BSR is completely safe for all ages and requires nothing more than lying still and letting go — something most teenagers are remarkably good at.

A note for parents

You know your child better than anyone. If something feels off — if they're not quite themselves, if they're in discomfort you can't explain, or if they've been carrying something physically or emotionally for a while — trust that instinct.

BSR is gentle, non-invasive, and completely safe from birth onwards. I'd always rather have a conversation and reassure you than have you wonder whether it might help.

Your path to discovery

From your first session to the gradual unwinding of tension you've carried for years - I'll be with you all the way.

Your First

Session

We start by listening. A detailed conversation about your history, followed by your body's own guided assessment — revealing exactly where tension has been stored and where to begin.

Your Unique

Path

No two people are the same. BSR follows what your body reveals, session by session, at its own pace — gently releasing layer by layer, and moving you closer to feeling well.

Your

Recovery

Not a fixed endpoint, but a gradual return — to ease, to comfort, to movement, to feeling like yourself again. Your body knows how to heal. BSR simply gives it the space to do so.

Frequently asked questions

  • What should I expect during my first session?

Your first session begins with a conversation. I'll take a detailed case history so I can understand what's been going on for you — how long you've been experiencing it, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping for.

You remain fully clothed throughout, and I use a specially designed BSR couch that lowers gently, so there's no awkward climbing on and off.

I then test your body for stored tension using a series of gentle reflex tests along your spine and other relevant areas. Your body guides me to the exact sites of stress. I apply a gentle but precise stimulus to begin the release — and most people find the whole experience deeply relaxing.

Your first session lasts approximately 60 minutes. Subsequent sessions 45-60 min

  • How many sessions will I need?

This is one of the most common questions I'm asked — and the honest answer is that it depends on you, your body, and how long it has been carrying stored tension.

Some people notice significant changes after just one or two sessions. Others, particularly those with long-standing or complex issues, find that their body releases gradually over a series of appointments. As a general guide, I recommend an initial course of three sessions fairly close together, which gives your body the best chance to build momentum.

What I can tell you is that BSR is cumulative — each session builds on the last. And many clients choose to continue with occasional maintenance sessions once they're feeling well, simply to keep their body balanced.

I'll always be honest with you about your progress, and I'll never recommend sessions you don't need.

  • What should I wear to my appointment?

Whatever you're comfortable in. You remain fully clothed throughout your BSR session, so there's no need to bring a change of clothes or anything special. Loose, comfortable clothing is ideal — but honestly, most people come straight from work or their daily routine and that's completely fine.

  • Is BSR safe during pregnancy?

Yes — BSR is gentle, non-invasive and completely safe throughout pregnancy. In fact, pregnancy is one of the times I'd most encourage you to come.

As your body changes and your baby grows, the lower back and pelvis carry increasing load — and any tension already stored in those areas can become more pronounced. Regular BSR sessions can help keep the lower back and pelvic area as free from stress as possible, supporting your comfort and helping your body prepare naturally for birth.

Many pregnant women tell me their BSR

session is the one hour in their week where they feel truly looked after. If you have any concerns or questions specific to your pregnancy, please don't hesitate to get in touch before booking.

  • How is BSR different from physiotherapy or chiropractic treatment?

It's a question I love being asked — because the differences are significant.

Physiotherapy typically focuses on rehabilitation through exercise, movement and manual therapy. Chiropractic focuses primarily on spinal manipulation — the adjustments and clicks you may be familiar with. Both have their place, and many of my clients have benefited from them.

BSR is different in a fundamental way. Rather than working on the body from the outside in, BSR works with the body's own intelligence — asking it where the stress is held and encouraging it to release that tension itself. There is no manipulation, no force, and no cracking or clicking of any kind.

BSR also looks for the source of the problem rather than treating the site of the pain. Tension held in one area of the body can affect another area entirely — and it's often only when those deeper patterns are released that lasting change begins to happen.

Many clients come to me having already tried physiotherapy or chiropractic — sometimes for years. BSR isn't a replacement for those approaches, but for many people it becomes the missing piece.
