Head, Stress & Sleep
When did you last wake up feeling truly rested — and free from pain?
For so many people, headaches, stress and disrupted sleep have become so familiar they've stopped questioning them. They reach for the paracetamol. They push through the day. They lie awake at 3am with a mind that won't switch off and a body that won't settle.
It doesn't have to be this way.

Headaches feed poor sleep. Poor sleep amplifies anxiety. Anxiety tightens the body and triggers more headaches. It's a cycle that conventional approaches often treat separately — but BSR addresses the common thread running through all of them: stored tension in the nervous system.
Release that, and everything begins to shift.
When your mind won't switch off
Sometimes stress isn't about a specific tension you can point to — it's a constant background noise. Racing thoughts. Mental clutter. A sense of being permanently "switched on" that no amount of rest seems to fix.
For clients experiencing this, I also offer Access Bars — a gentle technique involving light touch on specific points on the head, designed to help clear stored mental and emotional patterns. Many people describe sessions as deeply calming, often falling into a state of total relaxation, sometimes even sleep.
It's frequently used alongside BSR for clients who feel as though their stress lives as much in their mind as it does in their body.
Headaches & Migraines
Your head is trying to tell you something.
Most headaches don't begin in the head. They begin in the body — in the neck, the shoulders, the upper back — where tension has been quietly accumulating, tightening the muscles, compressing the nerves, and restricting the blood flow that keeps your brain comfortable.
Tension headaches are the most common type, and they're almost always rooted in stress stored in the neck and shoulders. Poor posture, long hours at a screen, emotional strain, and disrupted sleep — all of these contribute to the build-up.
Migraines are more complex, but they, too, are frequently a signal that the body is under significant stored stress. Many clients who come to me with migraines have been managing them for years — sometimes decades — and had stopped believing anything could change.
BSR works gently to release the tension held in the neck, base of the skull, and upper spine — areas that are almost always involved in headache patterns. As that tension releases, many clients find their headaches reduce in frequency, intensity, and duration.

Stress & Anxiety
Stress doesn't stay in your mind. It lives in your body.
We tend to think of stress and anxiety as emotional experiences. And they are. But they're physical ones too.
When we're under pressure — worried, overwhelmed, grieving, burned out — our muscles tighten. Our breathing shallows. Our nervous system shifts into high alert. And when that state becomes prolonged or habitual, the tension locks into the body's physical structures, keeping us in a cycle that's very hard to break from the mind alone.
Life brings so much that can push us into this state:
- Worry, anxiety or a sense of feeling unsafe
- Grief, loss or difficult relationships
- Work pressure, financial stress or burnout
- Family responsibilities pulling in every direction
- Feeling lonely, unappreciated or without purpose
- The weight of a diagnosis — for yourself or someone you love
BSR can't remove the source of your stress. But by releasing the tension that stress has locked into your body, it can shift the physical experience of it — helping your nervous system settle, your body soften, and your capacity to cope quietly expand.
Many clients tell me they feel not just physically lighter after a session, but emotionally clearer too.
"I was sceptical at first — but over six weeks I've gone from leaving the house three times a week to almost daily. I'm sleeping so much better." — Client review
Sleep
A body that can't let go can't rest.
Poor sleep is one of the most common things people mention when they first come to see me — often almost as an afterthought, as though it's separate from whatever brought them through the door.
It rarely is.
When the body is holding stored tension, the nervous system stays partially activated even at rest. You may fall asleep easily enough, but wake in the early hours with a racing mind. You may find a comfortable position almost impossible to achieve. You may wake feeling as tired as when you went to bed.
As body stress releases, sleep often improves — sometimes noticeably, and sometimes surprisingly quickly. The body, finally able to let go, begins to rest in the way it was designed to.

Your path to discovery
From your first session to the gradual unwinding of tension you've carried for years - I'll be with you all the way.
Your First
Session
We start by listening. A detailed conversation about your history, followed by your body's own guided assessment — revealing exactly where tension has been stored and where to begin.
Your Unique
Path
No two people are the same. BSR follows what your body reveals, session by session, at its own pace — gently releasing layer by layer, and moving you closer to feeling well.
Your
Recovery
Not a fixed endpoint, but a gradual return — to ease, to comfort, to movement, to feeling like yourself again. Your body knows how to heal. BSR simply gives it the space to do so.
Frequently asked questions
What should I expect during my first session?
Your first session begins with a conversation. I'll take a detailed case history so I can understand what's been going on for you — how long you've been experiencing it, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping for.
You remain fully clothed throughout, and I use a specially designed BSR couch that lowers gently, so there's no awkward climbing on and off.
I then test your body for stored tension using a series of gentle reflex tests along your spine and other relevant areas. Your body guides me to the exact sites of stress. I apply a gentle but precise stimulus to begin the release — and most people find the whole experience deeply relaxing.
Your first session lasts approximately 60 minutes. Subsequent sessions 45-60 min
How many sessions will I need?
This is one of the most common questions I'm asked — and the honest answer is that it depends on you, your body, and how long it has been carrying stored tension.
Some people notice significant changes after just one or two sessions. Others, particularly those with long-standing or complex issues, find that their body releases gradually over a series of appointments. As a general guide, I recommend an initial course of three sessions fairly close together, which gives your body the best chance to build momentum.
What I can tell you is that BSR is cumulative — each session builds on the last. And many clients choose to continue with occasional maintenance sessions once they're feeling well, simply to keep their body balanced.
I'll always be honest with you about your progress, and I'll never recommend sessions you don't need.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Whatever you're comfortable in. You remain fully clothed throughout your BSR session, so there's no need to bring a change of clothes or anything special. Loose, comfortable clothing is ideal — but honestly, most people come straight from work or their daily routine and that's completely fine.
Is BSR safe during pregnancy?
Yes — BSR is gentle, non-invasive and completely safe throughout pregnancy. In fact, pregnancy is one of the times I'd most encourage you to come.
As your body changes and your baby grows, the lower back and pelvis carry increasing load — and any tension already stored in those areas can become more pronounced. Regular BSR sessions can help keep the lower back and pelvic area as free from stress as possible, supporting your comfort and helping your body prepare naturally for birth.
Many pregnant women tell me their BSR session is the one hour in their week where they feel truly looked after. If you have any concerns or questions specific to your pregnancy, please don't hesitate to get in touch before booking.
How is BSR different from physiotherapy or chiropractic treatment?
It's a question I love being asked — because the differences are significant.
Physiotherapy typically focuses on rehabilitation through exercise, movement and manual therapy. Chiropractic focuses primarily on spinal manipulation — the adjustments and clicks you may be familiar with. Both have their place, and many of my clients have benefited from them.
BSR is different in a fundamental way. Rather than working on the body from the outside in, BSR works with the body's own intelligence — asking it where the stress is held and encouraging it to release that tension itself. There is no manipulation, no force, and no cracking or clicking of any kind.
BSR also looks for the source of the problem rather than treating the site of the pain. Tension held in one area of the body can affect another area entirely — and it's often only when those deeper patterns are released that lasting change begins to happen.
Many clients come to me having already tried physiotherapy or chiropractic — sometimes for years. BSR isn't a replacement for those approaches, but for many people it becomes the missing piece.
